A man has been charged with murder following the shock discovery of a woman’s body at a home in Tweed Heads.
Police were called to a home on Lakes Drive around 5.50pm (AEDT) on Wednesday night to conduct a welfare check when they found the woman dead inside.
The woman is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged in her 60s.
Police established a crime scene at the home and launched an investigation.
Following inquiries, police were lead to a business on nearby Kennedy Drive, where a 25-year-old man was found with injuries to his hands.
He was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Hospital under police guard.
Once discharged, he was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with murder.
He was refused bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court today.
