LATEST @ 11.15 AM | The second winner of last night’s record-breaking $200 million Powerball has finally been found – and sorry Gold Coasters, it wasn’t one of us.
The mystery millionaire has been revealed as a woman from the Brisbane suburb of Hawthorn.
It follows a major search for the lucky resident after it was revealed the unregistered ticket was purchased from a lottery outlet in South East Queensland.
The woman shares the Division One prize with a couple from Singleton in NSW, who discovered the life-changing news immediately after the draw last night.
Both winners take home a cool $100 million each.
More to come.
EARLIER @ 6.30 AM | There’s a lot of hope a secret Powerball winner could be among us after two people shared in last night’s record-breaking $200 million Powerball prize.
One of the tickets was owned by a New South Wales couple, however the other, which is an unregistered ticket, was bought by someone in South East Queensland who is yet to discover the life-changing news.
The NSW couple, who are now $100 million richer, wasted no time finding out they were new multi-millionaires, answering the phone call on the first ring while lying in bed.
“Thank you!” the Singleton woman hysterically laughed after discovering her 50-game QuickPick entry she purchased online was, in fact, the winning ticket.
“It’s a lot of money. A lot of money to fathom!
“I mean you joke about winning but never expect it to happen to you.
“Well, I absolutely won’t be working anymore! I mean, honestly, do I really need to?! There’s always a lot of hypothetical questions of what I would want to do but now I’m just lost for words. I have no idea.
“Maybe an overseas tour. I think I want to see everywhere.
“My partner is here with me now. He’s a bit in shock. He loves his job, so I don’t know if he’ll be retiring… but we’ll most definitely be celebrating on the weekend. Our options are endless!
“It’s going to help our children immensely… Wow. I’m just taking it all in. Thank you so much.”
Lotto officials are now on the hunt for the sunshine state winner, with the suburb the winning ticket was purchased from set to be revealed tomorrow morning if the person doesn’t come forward before then.
“We can’t wait to unite this mystery winner with their life-changing prize and have that incredibly special conversation about what their future might hold,” The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said.
“We are encouraging all Queensland players to check their entries, because you may just discover you’ve won a life-changing prize.
“If you discover you’re the multi-millionaire we’re searching for, call 131 868 to begin the process of claiming your prize.”
As well as the two division one winning entries, there were 22 division two winners across the country, who each took home a prize of $177,092.75.
The winning numbers in last night’s draw were 12, 33, 23, 35, 1, 26 and 32, while the all-important Powerball number was 10.
