Gold Coast golden girl Margot Robbie has bounced back from her Oscars snub to receive the highest honour in Australian film and television.
The much-loved actress has been announced as this year’s recipient of the prestigious Trailblazer Award, which recognises Australians who have had major success in the film industry and inspired others whilst doing it.
The 33-year-old will be presented with the honour at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards (AACTA), which is being held on the Gold Coast for the first time next month.
“I am truly honoured to accept the AACTA Trailblazer Award, especially in my hometown on the Gold Coast,” Robbie said.
“Australia has always been my grounding force, and to receive this recognition here is incredibly special.
“I believe in the power of storytelling and the impact it can have on shaping culture and inspiring others.
“This award is a testament to the incredible talent and dedication of everyone involved in the film community, and I am thrilled to be a part of it.
“Thank you to AACTA for this tremendous honour and I look forward to celebrating with the Australian screen industry in Queensland next month.”
The award comes 10 years on from Robbie’s breakthrough role as Naomi Lapaglia in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street.
Since then, Robbie has gone on to star in I, Tonya, Birds of Prey, Bombshell, Suicide Squad and has also ventured into producing through her company, LuckyChap.
“Margot’s influence and impact has been evident with her involvement in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie which has grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide,” AACTA said.
“In her role of both lead actress and producer, Robbie broke away from conventional stereotypes and offered an empowering female narrative”.
Previous winners of the Trailblazer Award include Chris Hemsworth, Rose Byrne, Simon Baker and Isla Fisher.
The award ceremony will be hosted by fellow Australian actress Rebel Wilson at the Home of the Arts (HOTA) on Saturday, February 10.
