A man has been charged after allegedly pouring petrol through a home on the northern Gold Coast, sparking an emergency declaration.

Police were called to the home on Maudsland Rd in Oxenford just after 1.30am on Friday following reports a man had been making threats.

Officers made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act after smelling the petrol fumes.

A 31-year-old man was arrested a short time later with the emergency declaration lifted.

The man has since been charged with one count each of wilful damage and threatening violence.

He is due to front Southport Magistrates Court later on Friday.

Police have confirmed three people were inside the home at the time but were not injured.
