Newsagents across the country are bracing for a busy day as Aussies flock to grab a ticket into tonight’s massive $100 million Powerball draw.

The whopping $100 million prize is the biggest jackpot of 2024 and the equal fifth-largest in Australian lottery history.

Thousands of tickets are expected to be purchased every minute at lottery outlets and online, with up to half of all Aussie adults tipped to nab an entry.

“This is the biggest jackpot offered by any Australian lottery game in more than six months, and we anticipate a busy period both in-store and online leading up to the final minutes before the draw closes,” The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said.

“We haven’t seen a $100 million Powerball draw since August 2023… On that occasion, the jackpot was shared between a 10-member Sydney syndicate and a Melbourne mum who each scored $50 million.

“The peak of sales was at 6.37pm on the day of the draw when more than 8,627 tickets were sold in a single minute.

“We’re often asked for our advice and our biggest tip to lottery players vying for a chance to win this mammoth prize is to get in early and don’t leave purchasing your entry until the last minute!”
