A nine-day crackdown on youth crime in the Logan and Gold Coast areas has led to the arrest of 15 juveniles.
Taskforce Guardian officers and Youth Justice workers worked alongside local police from January 4 to 12 in a bid to tackle youth offending.
The deployment included conducting proactive patrols, bail compliance checks, assisting with investigations and engaging with the community to ensure police activity suited the needs of each area.
On January 8, three boys were arrested on the Gold Coast after allegedly leading police on a wild joyride on the M1.
The trio, aged just 13 and 14, were tracked in a stolen Mazda by PolAir from Eagleby south to Carrara, and then back up north towards Brisbane.
The teens were nabbed when they tried to do a U-turn on the M1 at Yatala but became stuck.
Police allege the Mazda was stolen from a residence in Coombabah on January 8 and was bearing number plates stolen from a Nissan Qashqai in Pimpama.
Detective Acting Inspector Kent Ellis said the collaborative efforts of Logan officers bolstered by Taskforce Guardian were instrumental in quickly apprehending the group.
“I want to commend the collaborative effort of the Taskforce, Logan police and Polair for swiftly responding, and together ensuring the safety of the community as the three occupants were taken into custody,” he said.
“The Taskforce is a valuable tool in reinforcing our response to youth crime, and it is reassuring that they can be utilised state-wide as needs arise.
“We thank the community for continuing to provide us information that informs investigations, and we look forward to continuing to work around the clock to support community safety.”
In total, 15 young people have been charged on 61 charges.
