LATEST: Fire crews have managed to get the upper hand on a large house fire in Helensvale.

The inferno erupted at a home along Parkes Drive just after 6.30am on Tuesday and took multiple crews more than an hour to bring under control.

The property is believed to have been completely destroyed, with the house engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived on scene.

The occupants of the home, an elderly couple, thankfully managed to get out before the blaze took hold.

They were treated at the scene by paramedics for smoke inhalation, but aren’t expected to be taken to hospital.

A fire investigator is expected to head to the scene today to try and piece together exactly what caused the fire.

The blaze erupted at a property along Parkes Drive in Helensvale just after 6.30am on Tuesday.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson confirmed the property was well invovled upon arrival.

Four crews are on scene working to douse the flames, with paramedics also on standby.

All occupants thankfully managed to escape.

It’s unknown at this stage exactly what caused the fire, with investigators expected to head to the scene once the inferno has been extinguished.
