Australia are officially the Soccer Ashes champions after beating New Zealand 2-0 in their international friendly in London.
New Zealand started the game strong but struggled to create many chances after that, allowing the Aussies to take full advantage.
Socceroos star Harry Souttar was the first to find the back of the net, scoring his side’s opening goal in just the 13th minute.
Jackson Irvine then solidified the victory with a goal in the 76th minute.
Coach Graham Arnold said he was proud of his men, but admitted there was still a lot to improve on going forward.
“We’ve got to put the ball in the back of the net, obviously happy with the way we played, but improvement is the key,” he said.
“Since I re-signed the last 6 months has been about tough friendlies… I thought tonight you could see how sharp the boys were with the ball, and we’re playing some really good football.
“I’m starting to get headaches now on who to pick and choose because the depth is building.”
The Socceroos are next in action in their first Asian Cup qualifier against Bangladesh on November 16.
