A charity building in Tweed Heads has been completely destroyed after a ferocious fire tore through the property.
The blaze erupted at the building along Parkside Drive around 7.00pm (AEST) on Tuesday.
It took more than 40 firefighters, including some from the Gold Coast, several hours to put out.
The blaze was so intense it tore through over 20 storage units and a warehouse before firies were able to get the upper hand.
A woman was inside at the time but she thankfully managed to get out before the flames took hold.
She’s told reporters at the scene that she feels lucky to be alive.
“When I saw the smoke, I just thought ‘get out’ and thank god it’s at night when there’s only me here,” she said.
Fire crews remain on scene this morning, with parts of the building continuing to smolder.
It’s not yet known what sparked the fire, with investigations underway.
