A man will front court today charged over a wild crime spree across the Gold Coast.
The dramatic scenes began around 5.30pm on Saturday when the 26-year-old allegedly stormed a home in Southport armed with what appeared to be a handgun.
The man stole a Ford Ranger from the property, which was monitored through a tracking device in the vehicle as it travelled south to Currumbin Valley.
The Police Chopper was also called in to track the ute as it travelled towards a shopping centre car park in Elanora, where it pulled up next to a motorbike around 7.30pm.
Police allege the man then threatened the rider with the gun before ditching the ute and taking off on the motorcycle.
He didn’t get too far, with the man allegedly losing control of the motorbike a short time later before running off through the car park.
The police dog squad managed to sniff the man out and found him hiding in a private property nearby where he was taken into custody around 9.30pm.
The man, from Coolangatta, has been charged with one count each of armed robbery, enter dwelling with intent whilst armed and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
He will appear at the Southport Magistrates Court today.
Investigations are continuing.
