A man has been charged after an elderly man was brutally assaulted in an alleged unprovoked attack on the Gold Coast.
The 75-year-old was walking along Marine Parade in Labrador just before 6pm on Friday when an altercation allegedly occurred with a 50-year-old man.
Police allege the older man was struck, causing him to fall and hit his head.
He was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
The other man fled the scene on an electric scooter, prompting police to issue an appeal for help to identify him.
Following investigations, the 50-year-old local man was taken into custody in Labrador on Monday.
He has been charged with serious assault person over 60 and is due to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on October 23.
Police say both men were not known to each other.
