The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the southeast, including parts of the Gold Coast, Logan and the Scenic Rim.

The slow-moving thunderstorms are producing heavy rainfall.

Hail has also fallen right across the Gold Coast while the storms are whipping up huge cracks of thunder and lightning.

“The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 12:45 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Tamborine.,” BOM says.

“These thunderstorms are slow moving. They are forecast to affect Logan Village by 1:15 pm,

“Heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding is likely.”

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:

  • Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it’s flooded, forget it.
  • Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
  • Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
  • Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
  • For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 1:55 pm.
