UPDATE | A dispute about pets is believed to have sparked a vicious neighbourhood brawl on the northern Gold Coast that has left three men in hospital.

Police were called to a home on Cormorant Crescent in Jacobs Well around 11pm on Saturday.

Two males reportedly went to the property armed with a baseball bat before a man in his 60s was allegedly assaulted, suffering head injuries.

The victim’s partner then allegedly grabbed a knife in an attempt to defend the man.

A man in his 50s suffered a stab wound to his chest which resulted in a collapsed lung.

A man in his 40s suffered stab wounds to his back.

Charges are yet to be laid with detectives still piecing together what happened.

​”I ​know ​that ​there ​is ​a ​certain ​level ​of ​self ​defence ​here, ​but ​when ​you ​start ​using ​knives, ​it ​takes ​it ​to ​a ​whole ​new ​level,” Inspector Bruce Kuhn told the ABC.

​”Self ​defence ​relies ​on ​equal ​force ​for ​the ​force ​that’s ​being ​displayed and ​as ​soon ​as ​you ​pick ​up ​a ​knife, ​that ​just ​escalates ​it ​so ​much.”

Police are looking into claims the two men went to the house after a cat was killed, believing the neighbour’s dog was responsible.

EARLIER | Threepeople have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a violent brawl broke out on the northern Gold Coast.

It’s understood four people got involved in an altercation along Cormorant Crescent in Jacobs Well around 11pm on Saturday night.

A man in his 50s suffered a stab wound to the chest and another man in his 40s was stabbed in the back.

A man in his 60s also suffered a head injury after he was hit with a baseball bat.

All three men were taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

Queensland Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident and a woman is currently assisting police while the three men are being treated.

All four people are believed to be known to each other.
