Man killed after ute slams into tree in northern NSW

A man has died after his ute ploughed into a tree in a nasty crash on the NSW north coast.

It happened along Broadwater Evans Head Road at Broadwater, about 30km south of Ballina, just before 5am on Monday.

According to police, a Nissan Navara was travelling north when it lost control and collided with a tree.

The driver of the vehicle, a a 61-year-old man, could not be saved and died at the scene.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is now underway.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
