UPDATE | A Gold Coast councillor has had his murder charge heard in court for the very first time.
Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden was charged by police late on Wednesday night after his mother’s 58-year-old partner was found dead at the family home in Arundel earlier that day.

The matter will return to Southport Court on September 8.
EARLIER | Gold Coast Councillor Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden has been charged with murder following the death of his mother’s partner.
The Division 7 councillor was charged by police late on Wednesday night after a 58-year-old man was found dead at the family home in Arundel.
Emergency services were called to the Chiffley Place residence around 3pm following reports of a disturbance.
When they arrived, they found the man unconscious inside the home and commenced CPR, but he died at the scene.
Mr Bayldon-Lumsden was seen being taken from the home in a blue forensic suit by police for questioning before it was confirmed he had been charged.
The 30-year-old will appear before Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Mr Bayldon-Lumsden, a former schoolteacher, made history in 2020 when he became the youngest councillor to be elected in the city’s history at the age of just 27.
Gold Coast City Council has refused to comment, directing all questions to Queensland Police.
