UPDATE: A man has been charged with two counts of murder after the bodies of a young mum and her newborn baby were discovered inside a home in Rockhampton.

Police made the grim find at a home in Park Avenue whilst conducting a welfare check just before 11am on Thursday.

Officers attended the property after a man walked into Fortitude Valley police station in Brisbane this morning and allegedly reported there were two dead people inside the home.

“On arrival, police allegedly located a 30-year-old woman and an 11-week-old baby girl, both deceased,” Queensland Police said.

“Initial investigations indicate the woman and child died two days ago, on August 8, before the man flew to Brisbane later that same day.”

A crime scene has been declared at both the Rockhampton home and an apartment complex on Constance Street in Fortitude Valley, where the man is understood to have been staying.

A car has also been seized at Rockhampton airport and taken away for forensic examination.
