Police are investigating a threat made to the Gold Coast University Hospital that has forced the facility into lockdown.

A ‘code black’ was declared at the hospital on Monday afternoon after the threats were received, with reports they were directed at nursing staff.

“This afternoon, a threat of violence was made against our staff and the Gold Coast University Hospital,” Gold Coast Health said in a statement.

“The threat was considered credible, and the Queensland Police Service was notified and are investigating.

“In line with our processes, a Code Black was declared, and the hospital’s Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) was briefed.

“Security presence has been increased at the hospital. All emergencies are still being accepted.”

Police officers were stationed at the hospital overnight.
