An 18-year-old girl has been killed after the alleged stolen car she was a passenger in lost control and crashed in Toowoomba.

The Holden Commodore was driving on Hursley Road in the town of Newton just after midnight when it smashed into two trees and a concrete bench.

Police say local patrols had sighted the vehicle just before the fiery crash, but did not pursue the car or engage with the driver.

The impact of the crash was shocking, with reports parts of the vehicle and broken glass were scattered across the roadway.

The young woman suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 19-year-old Ipswich man, was transported to Toowoomba Hospital with minor injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash and the Ethical Standards Command will review the matter.
