Burleigh residents are being warned not to be alarmed if they see or smell smoke today, with a planned burn getting underway in one of the major parks.

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will start the burn in the Burleigh Knoll Conservation Park today, however, it is expected to continue until Thursday.

As a result, smoke may be seen within the Burleigh Heads and South Coast areas.

“The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas,” QPWS said.

“This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration”.

Anyone driving through the suburb is also being urged to drive safely to the conditions, with smoke potentially decreasing the visibility on roads.
