The Gold Coast Titans have sensationally sacked coach Justin Holbrook and will replace him with premiership-winning coach Des Hasler.
Holbrook has been on shaky ground at the Titans after another disappointing start to the season which sees the club sitting outside the top 8.
The club announced it had decided to head in a new direction, confirming it had secured the services of Hasler for 2024.
“We are grateful to Justin for his contribution to the club over the past four seasons,” Titans CEO Steve Mitchel said.
“We are here to bring success to the Gold Coast and in order to do so we feel that this is the change necessary to deliver on our promise which is to win premierships.”
Holbrook joined the club in 2020 after a successful stint at UK Superleague club St Helens.
The Titans finished outside the top 8 that year but scraped into the first week of the finals in 2021.
But things went backwards the following year with the club finishing 13th.
Season 2023 hasn’t gone to plan either with the Titans posting just six wins after 16 rounds which has them outside the top 8.
Holbrook will leave the club immediately.
The club has now turned to a proven premiership winner in Des Hasler in a bid to achieve their goal of winning an NRL Grand Final.
Hasler took Manly to a premiership in 2011 before joining the Bulldogs where he led the side to a Grand Final in 2014.
He returned to the Northern Beaches in 2019, only to be sacked by Manly again at the end of 2022.
“I’m looking forward to joining the Titans and to the 2024 season,” Hasler said.
“The club has a strong playing roster, the region is blessed with emerging talent and the organisation is firmly embedded in the community.
“I’m confident we can deliver success to the region in the coming seasons.”
Hasler’s signing will see him reunite once again with veteran player Keiran Foran.
The Titans will address the media this afternoon.
