The Gold Coast has copped a massive drenching with some parts of the city recording around 150mm of rain since.

That’s well above the 30mm the Bureau forecast on Monday.

Heavy rain started settling in around 7pm on Monday and hasn’t let up since.

Loder Creek in Southport had recorded 149mm of rain between 9am Monday and 6am Tuesday while 141mm has been recorded at Molendinar.

Around 123mm has fallen in Carrara, 121mm in Biggera Waters while Burleigh Waters and Oxenford Weir have both recorded 102mm.

The average May rainfall at the Gold Coast Seaway is 101mm.

The bureau is forecasting the chance of a thunderstorm as well this morning before things ease by late morning.

“Once that moves offshore we’re expecting things to start clearing up and then from Wednesday just some light coastal showers,” Shane Kennedy from BOM said.

The weather has also prompted a warning from Police for motorists to take extra care in the wet.
