A woman has been killed in a horrific crash on the Bruce Highway north of Gympie.

The 41-year-old was travelling with a 7-year-old girl southbound in Chatsworth around 3.45pm Friday, when the vehicle collided with a Ford Ranger towing a caravan which was travelling northbound.

The woman from Tinana died at the scene, while the child was taken to Gympie Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Ranger, a 76-year-old Valdora man, was taken to Gympie Hospital with minor injuries and his passenger, a 72-year-old Valdora woman, was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious condition with chest injuries.
