Crime scene declared after man found dead in Southport unit

LATEST @ 1.00 PM | Police have declared a crime scene at a unit in Southport following the discovery of a man’s body.

Managers of the Barney Street complex made the grim discovery inside the apartment around 7.30am on Friday while conducting a welfare check on the 61-year-old.

“Management of the complex discovered the body of a male-tenant following a welfare check,” A Gold Coast police spokesperson said.

“The unit was declared a crime scene just before 8am”.

At this stage, there are no details about the suspected cause of death.

Investigations are ongoing.
