The Premier has confirmed she has ordered a dedicated task force to urgently reconvene in the wake of a spate of vicious dog attacks in Queensland.
Overnight, there were an alarming three attacks across the state, including one on the Gold Coast that’s left a toddler in a serious condition.
It comes just 24 hours after a young girl suffered significant injuries after being mauled by dogs in Logan.
The task force has been set up since 2021 under Agriculture Minister Mark Furner and meets on a regular basis.
But Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says she’s personally asked them to immediately reconvene, with action to be taken before the end of the month.
“We have now been seeing more and more of these dog attacks and I understand the community concern about this,” the Premier says.
“I’ve asked the Minister to personally chair and reconvene this working group urgently next week,
“At the moment there are fines available up to around $45,000, but we are seeing more dog attacks.”
The Premier says they’ll work closely with local councils, and agrees that there need to be stronger enforcement measures in place in the keeping of dangerous dogs.
