A volunteer firefighter has been charged after allegedly deliberately lighting a fire near Armidale, in north-west NSW.
Arson Unit detectives launched an investigation last year into suspicious fires across the Uralla Shire local government area.
Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 47-year-old man in Uralla about 8am yesterday.
Police allege the man, who is a volunteer firefighter, deliberately lit a fire in grassland near Kingstown Road on Friday 16 September 2022.
The fire burnt through more than four hectares of grassland and a paddock before it was extinguished by NSW RFS firefighters.
The man has since been charged with intentionally cause fire and be reckless as to its spread, and holder of Category A or B licence not have approved storage.
He has been granted strict conditional bail to appear at Armidale Local Court on Monday 5 June.
Investigations are continuing.
