Titans halfback Tanah Boyd has described the potentially season-ending injury to teammate Beau Fermor as a massive blow.

The club broke the devastating news to fans on Thursday, confirming the 24-year-old had ruptured his ACL in a mishap at training during the week.

“The Gold Coast Titans can confirm Beau Fermor has been dealt a devastating injury blow,” the club said in a statement.

“Scans have revealed the 24-year-old has ruptured his ACL at training this week with the back-rower to now meet with medical staff to outline his rehabilitation.

“Facing a lengthy stint on the sidelines, the Titans are right behind him in his recovery.”

It comes just days out from the side’s season opener against the Tigers at Leichardt on Sunday, with halfback Tanah Boyd admitting he’s heartbroken for the hardworking back-rower.

“It’s a pretty big blow, I can’t believe it to be honest,” Boyd told 1029 Hot Tomato’s Galey and Emily Jade on Friday.

“Poor Beauey, he’s had the best pre-season and he was flying.

“It’s devastating, but sometimes that’s how Rugby League goes, it’s a pretty cruel game sometimes.

“But we do need to kind of move past it now, we’ve got a pretty big job on the weekend and got to get a good performance in and get the win”.

Fermor was one of, if not the Titan’s best last season, topping the club’s 2022 try-scoring list with an impressive 11 tries in 23 games.

He was also included in Queensland’s extended squad and was likely pushing for a State of Origin debut this year.

The loss has left a big hole in the Gold Coast’s forward pack, with new recruit Joe Stimson now likely to come into the starting side for Sunday’s game with Sam McIntrye on the interchange.
