LATEST @ 9.45 AM | Police have confirmed they’ve recovered the body of a man who went missing while swimming off Wave Break Island this morning.

The 52-year-old is understood to have been yabbying on the western side of the island with another man when their boat came adrift and floated away.

He then swam out in the rough conditions in an attempt to retrieve the boat but failed to return to shore.

The alarm was raised with emergency crews around 6.30am, sparking a major air, land and sea search involving a helicopter and lifesavers on jetskis.

The man’s body was located by police divers around 9.20am.

A report will now be prepared for the coroner.

EARLIER @ 8.25 AM | A major search is underway on the Gold Coast this morning after a man went missing in the Broadwater.

The alarm was raised around 6.30am on Friday after a man went into the water to try and retrieve a boat that came loose near Wavebreak Island.

The man did not return and has not been seen since.

Emergency services are now scouring the Broadwater for the man with paramedics on standby at Labrador.

Surf Lifesaving Queensland is assisting with jetskis while a helicopter is also searching from the air.
