A MAN has died in hospital just a day after being found critically injured in northern NSW.

Emergency crews were called to Holden Lane in Ballina around 5.00pm on Saturday, following reports the man had been found unconscious.

Upon arrival, they found the 54-year-old suffering serious head injuries.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to Lismore Base Hospital in a critical condition.

Sadly, police confirmed in a statement a short time ago that the man passed away on Sunday.

NSW Police have now established Strike Force Bolar to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death and how he came to be injured.

A post-mortem examination will also be conducted to determine the cause of death.
