A severe weather warning is in place for the Gold Coast as heavy rain again threatens the city.
The massive weather system that has been dumping huge amounts of rain on parts of the southeast has largely avoided most of the Gold Coast so far.
Areas of the Hinterland have still received some decent rainfall with Upper Springbrook recording 92mm since 9am yesterday, however rainfall totals closer to the coast have been a lot lower.
But the Bureau is warning that luck could be about to run out as the rain band creeps closer.
“There’ll be a redevelopment later today within this system and it is going to start moving southward,” BOM forecaster Helen Kirkup told myGC.
“So through today the focus will continue to be further north but I think the Gold Coast will start to be impacted as the day goes on and quite possibly through the night tonight.”
BOM is forecasting rain and possible storms with the likelihood of some heavy falls of up to 100 millimetres.
It is also warning that those heavy falls could lead to flash flooding.
There is also the possibility of some damaging winds.
Heavy rain is expected to continue into Sunday with another 120mm forecast.
It should ease to showers by Monday.

A flood watch remains in place for Gold Coast rivers and creeks while a minor flood warning is in place for the Albert River at Wolfdene and Beenleigh.
All Gold Coast beaches will be closed again on Saturday with lifeguards warning of more dangerous conditions.
