Four members of the Prime Minister’s security detail have been rushed to hospital after a car crash during campaigning in Tasmania.

Two Tasmanian police officers and two Federal police officers were in the vehicle when it rolled down an embankment in Elizabeth Town.

Scott Morrison was not injured and was not in the car.

The incident has forced the Prime Minister to cancel his campaign events for the remainder of the day, including a defence industry event.

The four officers have been taken to hospital for further assessment and were reportedly all conscious.

There are reports the crash involved the unmarked police car and a Mitsubishi Triton, with initial enquiries indicating the Triton collided with the rear of the police vehicle when merging.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
