A man has been busted carrying binoculars and knives after allegedly being caught “performing a lewd act” at a playground, just south of the Gold Coast.

A member of the public spotted the man allegedly carrying out a sexual act at the children’s play area around 10.30am on Tuesday near Jack Evans Boat Harbour in Tweed Heads.

This sparked a full investigation, with Police catching up to the man yesterday around 1pm on Boundary Street.

He was found to be carrying a pair of binoculars, two knives and items believed to be stolen including a bike and ID’s.

The 44-year-old was taken into custody and charged with carrying out a sexual act with another without consent, goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen, and custody of knife in public place.

The Tweed Heads man was refused bail and will front a court today.
