A body has been located in the NSW Snowy Mountains region, following the search for a missing skier.
A 23-year-old man went to Kosciuszko National Park on Saturday 3 September and intended to ski the backcountry.
He failed to return or make further contact by the end of the day, with a search commencing on Sunday.
Following an extensive two-day search, a body has been retrieved.
While it is believed to be the body of the missing skier, he is yet to be formally identified.
The large-scale coordinated aerial and ground search involved specialist police from the Alpine Operations Unit, PolAir, the State Emergency Service (SES), and National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).
PolAir located a person in a remote area of Watsons Crags on Monday afternoon, however, the helicopter was not able to land or use winching capabilities due to the steep terrain and hazardous weather conditions.
The operation was suspended for the day and resumed today, with the arrival of PolAir carrying specialist police trained in alpine rescue.
The officers were winched down to the ground, where the body of a man was located.
The operation is now continuing to retrieve the body.
A report will now be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
