Air-conditioners and fans are expected to get a good workout today, with Gold Coasters set to swelter through scorching hot temperatures.
The mercury is tipped to soar to 33 degrees in Surfers Paradise on Tuesday, with a high of 34C forecast for Nerang and Coomera.
It’s a stark contrast to what we saw just last week, when the city recorded its coldest start to December on record.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a heatwave warning for a large part of Queensland, with some parts of the state set to hit 45C.
“Maximum temperatures will rise to the low to mid forties in central and western parts with overnight minimum temperatures in the mid to high twenties,” BOM said.
“In eastern parts, maximum temperatures will rise to the mid to high thirties with overnight minimum temperatures in the low to mid twenties.
“Temperatures will continue to rise later in the week, with heatwave conditions intensifying and extending in area.”
While temperatures will rise to the mid 30s here, the Gold Coast is expected to be spared the worst of it.
It’s set to remain sunny with a top of 29C tomorrow, before rising again on Thursday to 33C with the chance of a Summer afternoon thunderstorm.
