Two teenage boys have been charged with the murder of a man in Logan.
The 15-year-old and 16-year-old boy are accused of the stabbing death of 20-year-old Aiden Rhys Bower-Miles, during an altercation in Underwood.
Police found the man unresponsive along Fermont Road just after 1am on Friday morning, and he died at the scene.
Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith says the group were not known to each other, and it was a “chance meeting” that ended in tragedy.
“Young people being stupid to put it simply, just a conflict, you know, who’s the rougher group,” Detective Superintendent Smith says.
“It’s just amazing that this continues to happen. There’s no valid reason to carry a knife, I don’t care what anyone says, and these things wouldn’t happen.”
It’s another harrowing reminder of the dangers of carrying a knife, with Detective Superintendent Smith saying it’s happening way too often.
“We all know the dangers of carrying knives, we just need to get the message across to our young people, that there’s no need,
“It’s rubbish to say you need it for protection, that’s our job, we’ll protect the community. Do not carry a knife, I can’t stress it enough,
“I’ve lost count of the amount of people who have been killed by knife crime. Had they not had a knife we wouldn’t be here today,
“A young person has been murdered over no good reason, absolute rubbish really.”
Following extensive investigations, detectives executed a search warrant at a Mount Gravatt East address late yesterday afternoon, where a 15-year-old local boy was arrested.
A short time later a 16-year-old Logan boy was arrested at a Millaroo Drive, Helensvale shopping centre, where police also recovered a black Audi sedan which was the subject of an earlier appeal in the centre’s carpark.
The boys were taken into custody without incident and were overnight charged with one count each of murder (child under 18).
The 15-year-old boy was also charged with one court of fail to provide access to data (electronics).
The 16-year-old boy was also charged with one count of possess dangerous drugs – cannabis (child under 18).
Their bail has been denied and they will appear in Brisbane Childrens Court.
Neither of the accused has a serious offending history.
The vehicle was last night towed from the scene to a forensic facility where it is undergoing analysis.
Police are renewing calls for witnesses especially those with dashcam vision or CCTV of the incident to come forward.
In particular, investigators are seeking footage of the black Audi sedan bearing Queensland Registration 448GF5 with a distinctive off-centre front number plate hanging at an angle travelling from around 7am between QEII Hospital on the Cnr of Kessels and Troughton Roads, Coopers Plains up to 4pm to a Millaroo Drive, Helensvale shopping centre.
Police also ruled out the incident being gang-related.
