Two teenagers have been charged with the alleged murder of an Uber driver whose body was found almost a week after he disappeared.
Hervey Bay man Scott Cabrie had not been heard from since last Monday, sparking a desperate search for the 47-year-old.
His burnt-out car was found near Wieland Road at Pacific Haven the following day, on February 7, before his body was sadly located near a boat ramp at Howard on Sunday, February 12.
Following investigations into the man’s death, police yesterday executed a search warrant at a Pacific Haven home, where a 17-year-old male was taken into custody.
He has been charged with one count each of murder, arson and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Detectives also arrested and charged an 18-year-old Sunshine Acres man with murder, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, arson, armed robbery and deprivation of liberty – unlawfully detain.
Police allege Mr Cabrie was killed during the course of an Uber trip.
“Police will allege that a robbery was attempted of that male Uber driver which unfortunately escalated and that male person was subsequently killed by these people,” Detective Superintendent Darrin Shadlow told reporters.
The 17-year-old was denied bail to appear before Hervey Bay Children’s Court, while the 18-year-old was also bail refused to appear in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court today.
Police say investigations into the circumstances of the man’s death remain ongoing.
