UPDATE @ 10.00am | A Victorian man charged with the murder of a man in Ashmore has fronted court for the first time.

Jessie Dean Buchanan appeared in Southport Magistrates Court via videolink on Monday morning.

It comes only a matter of hours after the 36-year-old was formally charged with one count each of murder, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and receiving tainted property following the death of 62-year-old Trevor Schneider.

The victim was found dead in the back yard of an Ashmore home on Sunday morning after police were called to the property to conduct a welfare check.

Police have revealed there were “clear signs of violence” but have refused to elaborate on the nature of his injuries.

A few hours later, Buchanan was allegedly found with no pants on and behaving erratically at a store in Molendinar. The victim’s car was also found parked outside.

In court, Buchanan made no application for bail and he will be remanded in custody until his next appearance on March 7.
