A man has been airlifted to the Gold Coast after suffering serious injuries in a horror northern NSW crash.

A truck and a car collided in East Coraki, just south of Lismore, around 1pm on Thursday afternoon.

The driver of the vehicle, a 55-year-old man, became trapped inside his vehicle along Wyrallah Road.

Police Rescue managed to free the driver before he was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics and airlifted to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the truck, a 68-year-old man, was treated for shock at the scene.

NSW Police have established a crime scene that will be forensically examined.
