The first tropical cyclone of the season is expected to creep towards the Queensland coast this week.
A tropical low near the Solomon Islands is forecast to track southwest towards Queensland over the next few days.
It’s tipped to strengthen into a cyclone by Wednesday and would be named Tropical Cyclone Freddy.
Freddy could turn into a category three storm with winds of up to 220 km/h.
The cyclone is expected to remain off the coast before turning towards the south on Thursday.
While Freddy is not tipped to make landfall, forecasters warn there is still a lot of uncertainty about its path.
A strong wind warning has already been issued for the Townsville, Mackay and Capricornia coasts.
The system is also expected to bring large swells to parts of the Queensland coast.
