Four people have been taken to hospital following a crash on a major road in Southport this morning.

Two cars collided along Ferry Road just before 8am, with the impact causing one of the vehicles to cross into oncoming traffic.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson told myGC the accident is believed to have occurred after one of the driver’s suffered a suspected medical episode.

A man in his 50s was treated at the scene for chest pain, while a woman in her 40s suffered neck pain.

A teenage boy and male child were also assessed by paramedics for neck pain.

All four have since been taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in stable conditions.

One lane has been blocked in each direction on Ferry Road, with traffic heavily congested in the area.
