The inaugural Usher Cup has officially kicked off at Snapper Rocks this morning– and this year, it’s set to be bigger and better than ever before.

The iconic surf break is once again playing host to some of Australia’s most decorated board riders clubs, and for the first time ever, the surfing competition is open to international talent.

With some of the best up-and-coming young surfers in the world on the program, 23 Australian clubs and eight international clubs will compete for a $7000 first place purse.

Contest Co-Founder, Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew said he is thrilled to be hosting so much talent right here on the Gold Coast.

“The international clubs really make it exciting.

“It’s amazing when you go around the world and go to the classic places like Trestles in California or out the North Shore of Oahu, all the grommets want to come surf Snapper Rocks– it’s a super famous spot,” he said.

The unique surf competition is designed to showcase amateur surfers and emerging pros, and the format is based on highest individual score, highest club score and the expression sessions.
