A taxi driver has been bashed almost to death in Brisbane overnight following a violent alleged robbery, with one man charged and another two still at large.

Just before 1am, the driver was parked on Wickham Terrace, Fortitude Valley when three men entered his taxi and demanded his wallet.

The driver was forced out of the taxi before being repeatedly punched and kicked in the head.

The three accused men left him for dead, injured on the roadway and fled the scene.

The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Police tracked down one of the men nearby, arresting him immediately.

The 20-year-old Capalaba man has been charged with one count each of robbery, grievous bodily harm and wilful damage.
