A smoke alert has been issued for residents on the northern Gold Coast due to a bushfire at Yatala.

The blaze erupted at a paddock in the vicinity of Link Drive and Darlington Drive at around 9.45am.

It’s currently taken over around 300sqm of land and is burning close to high voltage power lines.

There is also a concern for a factory nearby with items in the yard exposed to the fire.

More than a dozen rural and urban fire crews are on scene working to contain the blaze.

Authorities have warned that smoke is affecting the Yatala area, with residents and workers urged to stay inside and close all windows and doors.

Drivers are urged to avoid driving through smoke where possible and be aware of firefighters working in the area.
