Wanting to kick start your career in the sport and fitness industry?

TAFE Queensland has a range of pathway options to help you turn your dreams into reality.

Gold Coast teacher Hunter Paltridge told myGC TAFE Queensland offers an array of courses which gives students numerous career options.

“We have a Cert II in Sport Coaching that’s delivered in our school space where we also sandwich that with a Cert III in Fitness which allows them to become a gym instructor,” Mr Paltridge said.

“From there they’ll move onto a Cert IV in Fitness where they can then work as a personal trainer.

“For those who would like to go down the coaching path, we also have a Diploma of Sport, which has got a really good articulated pathway with University studies, but also allows students to work as a coach– the administrative side of coaching and also the high performance aspect of being a coach in sport.”

Mr Paltridge said it is extremely beneficial to be able to immediately action and apply the theory learnt in the classroom to the physical setting of the TQ Fitness centre at the brand new Robina Campus.

“We can go from the classroom to the gym and you have that prac and that theory seamlessly integrated,” he said.

This really appealed to student Andrew Ma who is just one week away from finishing his Certificate IV in Fitness.

“We have easy access to the gym whenever we want to try a different program or technique we can,” he said.

With the support of expert teaching staff, the students are also able to practice their skills on real life clients

“Our teachers are really supportive and knowledgeable,” Mr Ma said.

“Practising our training skills on real life clients helps to build our confidence and allows us to have more hands-on experience, so when we graduate we are more job ready and knowledgeable.”
