Sydney’s Taronga Zoo has been forced into lockdown this morning after five lions broke free from their enclosure.

It sparked a frantic search, with keepers and other authorities called in to help locate the animals on the loose and wrangle them back into their pen.

The Zoo confirmed the incident in a statement a short time ago, assuring the public that the lions have now all been accounted for.

“An emergency situation occurred this morning at Taronga Zoo Sydney when five lions were located outside their enclosure,” the statement said.

“The Zoo has strict safety protocols in place for such an incident.

“All persons on site were moved to safe zones and there are no injuries to guests or staff.

“All animals are now in their exhibit where they are being closely monitored.”
