A man has been charged over a shocking hit and run in Southport earlier this month that left an elderly woman fighting for life.

The 62-year-old was allegedly struck by a white Audi on Marine Parade near Short St around 10.40pm on the evening of September 7.

The Audi fled the scene while the woman was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition with significant internal injuries.

Police issued a public appeal to find the vehicle and driver with investigations eventually leading them to an apartment block in Surfers Paradise last night.

Officers executed a search warrant, arresting a 33-year-old Carrara man.

He has since been charged with one count each of driving without due care and attention causing grievous bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driver fail to remain at incident and render assistance, driving of motor vehicle without driver’s licence disqualified by the court and fail to comply with duties of driver involved in a crash.

The man was denied police bail and is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday.
