Community safety concerns have resulted in the Gold Coast council committing to upgrading a dangerous stretch of road in Pimpama.

A supervised crossing will be installed at Cunningham Drive just outside of Pimpama State Primary College.

In a video posted to social media, Division 1 Councillor Mark Hammel says the project was initiated by concerned locals.

“We’re going to put in as supervised crossing which has come about from community feedback,”

“They felt like kids crossing Cunningham Drive needed a supervised point.”

The upgrade will get underway during the September school holidays.

It comes after a nine-year-old girl was seriously injured after being struck by a car as she was walking to the school, earlier this month.
