The New South Wales government has been given until lunchtime today to table a decent offer for the NRL Grand Final or face losing the decider to Queensland.
The ARL Commission is due to meet this afternoon and it hopes to finally lock in a venue for the October 2 clash.
Brisbane has reportedly edged ahead of Sydney in the race to host the grand final.
It’s believed the NRL could rake in $10 million if the game was hosted at Suncorp Stadium, compared to around $7 million if it’s held in Sydney.
The ARL Commission has been at loggerheads with the New South Wales government after it backflipped on a promise to spend millions of dollars upgrading suburban Sydney grounds.
The ARLC is apparently now leaning towards Queensland with the Sunshine State said to be slightly ahead in the race.
ARLC Chair Peter V’Landys admits it’s on a knife’s edge and even he isn’t sure which way it will go.
League bosses are desperate to lock in a venue soon so they can start selling tickets to the grand final which is now just over six weeks away.
