The first day of Splendour In The Grass 2022 has been cancelled.

Organisers made the call to cancel all main-stage acts, with heavy rainfall turning the North Byron Parklands into a quagmire.

It comes after organisers were forced to close the campsite entirely after thousands of festival-goers were waiting in their cars for up to 12-hours to get in.

In a statement posted to social media, organisers say they hope the next two days will go ahead as planned.

“In the interest of patron safety and in consultation with all relevant emergency services, we have decided to err on the side of caution,”

“A significant weather system is currently sitting off the east coast and may reach land later today bringing more rainfall.”

Day patrons have been asked to not attend today’s festivities while organisers “work on repairs”.

The statement also says that ticket holders will be refunded.

Meanwhile, festival-goers who are already on-site are able to stay inside with the smaller “destination spaces” remaining open.
