Police are on the hunt for a man after a woman was threatened and robbed strolling along a Gold Coast beach esplanade.

The 26-year-old woman was walking along The Esplanade in Burleigh Heads around 5.30pm on Tuesday 31 May when a man approached her with a large knife.

He then demanded she hand over her mobile phone and threatened her when she initially refused.

The woman then complied in fear of her safety, and handed over her phone.

The man then fled on foot, running south along The Esplanade, with CCTV footage then showing him bolt along Fifth Avenue before heading north on the Gold Coast Highway towards Miami.

Detectives are urging anyone who has information regarding the man in the video, or the offence, to come forward.
