Three men have been charged with a string of offences following an alleged assault in Surfers Paradise early on Saturday morning that left a man with serious injuries.

Police say an altercation broke out between a 26-year-old New South Wales man and a man known to him at around 2am on Surfers Paradise Boulevard near Cavill Avenue.

The man walked away before allegedly returning with a group.

It is then alleged the 26-year-old man was repeatedly bashed, before the group fled the scene.

The man suffered serious injuries and was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Three men were located a short distance away and were arrested by Police.

A 22-year-old Laurieton man has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm in company.

A 20-year-old Kendall man has been charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm in company and two counts of possessing dangerous drugs.

A 19-year-old Port Macquarie man has been charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm in company and two counts of possessing dangerous drugs.

The trio will front Southport Magistrates Court on June 3.
